Frequently Asked Questions
Q.
Will I need special equipment?
A.
We will install an Ethernet Access Portal inside your home that will connect to your computer.
Your computer must have an Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC) and you will need a Cat 5 Ethernet Patch Cable to connect your computer to the Access Portal. To connect multiple computers or to use your Clariti Media connection wirelessly, you will need a single Broadband Wireless Router and a Wirelss Network Adapter installed in each computer you wish to use wirelessly. Cat 5 Patch Cables, Broadband Wireless Routers and Wireless Adapters may be purchased from Sunset Digital when your Access Portal is installed or may be purchased in advance at most electronics retailers. If you opt for our Level 3 service plan (100 Mpbs) you may have to order a special router capable of handling the ultra high-speed service, click here to view a list.
We'll work with you to make sure you get the equipment you need.
Q.
What happens after I send in my signed agreement?
A.
When we receive your signed customer agreement, and a Sunset engineer has surveyed your location, Sunset's Field Crew will be assigned to build your customer drop when they are working in your location. A "drop" is the fiber optic cable that is installed either aerial or underground from your residence to the nearest Access point on our backbone network. After the drop is spliced into the Sunset Digital backbone, we will call to schedule a morning or afternoon appointment to install an Ethernet Access Portal in your home. The Ethernet Access Portal will then be remotely configured by Sunset Digital Network Technicians and your ultra high speed connection will be ready to use!
A.
The superior bandwidth of fiber optics means substantially faster, more reliable Internet connection and downloads than dial-up could ever provide. Also, the fiber optics allows you to access the Internet when you want without having to worry about weather conditions. Fiber optic is also non- conductive to electricity. Though lightning can find its way to your computers through other ways such as electrical systems, some organizations may find their electronics less susceptible to lightning strike damage.
